Retride Side Effects: BHB Salts, Keto Flu and Safety Cautions
No study has tested Retride itself. Stomach upset from BHB salts was seen at gram doses, far above its 60 mg serving. The keto diet on the label can cause keto flu in the first weeks, and it can drop blood sugar too far in people on insulin or diabetes pills. Ask a doctor first if that applies.
What are the main Retride side effects?
The diet, not the capsule, is the main source.
No study has tested Retride itself, so no side-effect rate exists for it. What we can do is look at each part: 60 mg of BHB salts, the capsule ingredients and the keto diet on the label.
For most healthy adults, the capsules are the smallest piece. The diet is where most first-month side effects come from.
Six possible Retride side effects and where they come from
| Possible effect | Likely source | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Headache, tiredness, dizziness | Keto diet (keto flu) | Drink water, ease carbs down, rest |
| Nausea, constipation | Keto diet; large ketone-salt doses | Fiber-rich low-carb vegetables, water |
| Loose stools, cramps | Gram doses of ketone salts; high magnesium | Unlikely at 60 mg; keep to the label |
| Low blood sugar | Keto diet with insulin or diabetes pills | Ask your doctor before you start |
| Mineral overload | Study doses of salts; kidney disease | Tiny at 60 mg; kidney patients ask first |
| Allergy to capsule | Gelatin, other ingredients | Check the label; stop if you react |
BHB salt stomach side effects: big doses vs 60 mg in Retride
Symptoms rise with dose. 60 mg is far below the tested range.
Stomach upset from ketone supplements depends on dose. In Stubbs et al., 2019, ketone drinks caused mostly mild gut symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea. High-dose salt drinks gave a symptom load of 13.8, against 2.0 for low-dose salt drinks.
Gut symptom load with ketone salt drinks (Stubbs 2019); both doses were many grams
Both doses in that study were grams of BHB. Retride holds 60 mg per serving, so the dose that drove these symptoms is far above the label. Gut trouble from the BHB itself is unlikely at this amount.
If you do feel queasy, take the capsules with a meal and the full 8 oz. glass of water. Never take more than the label dose. The Supplement Facts page shows every ingredient.
Keto diet side effects and keto flu
Most first-month effects come from cutting carbs.
The Retride label suggests a diet of 70% fat, 25% protein and 5% carbohydrate. That is a strict keto diet, and it has known short-term side effects. StatPearls lists nausea, headache, fatigue, dizziness and constipation as keto flu symptoms (StatPearls, Ketogenic Diet, 2023).
In one survey, the most reported symptoms were flu-like feelings (44.6%), headache (24.8%), fatigue (17.8%), nausea (15.8%) and dizziness (14.9%). They peaked in week one and faded after about four weeks (Bostock et al., 2020).
Constipation is common when fruit, grains and beans leave the plate. Low-carb vegetables such as leafy greens, broccoli and zucchini add fiber. Drink water through the day.
Tiredness and light-headedness are common in the first days. Keep meals regular, do not cut calories too hard at the start, and rest. Stand up slowly if you feel dizzy.
Our keto flu guide walks through the first month. These effects come from the diet and would happen with or without the capsules.

Low blood sugar with diabetes medicine: the biggest caution
Keto plus insulin or diabetes pills can drop sugar too far.
This is the most important safety point on the page. People on insulin or oral glucose-lowering drugs can develop severe hypoglycemia on a keto diet unless their medicine is adjusted (StatPearls, Ketogenic Diet, 2023).
Extra ketones can also nudge blood sugar down. A review found single doses lowered blood glucose by about 0.54 mmol/L, with salts weaker than esters (Falkenhain et al., 2022). At 60 mg the capsule effect is likely small, but the diet effect can be large.
Signs of low blood sugar include shakiness, sweating, a fast heartbeat, hunger, confusion and irritability. If you have diabetes, follow your doctor's plan for treating a low.
Ketosis vs ketoacidosis: are keto pills dangerous?
Different conditions. One is an emergency.
Nutritional ketosis and ketoacidosis share a word, but they are very different. Ketoacidosis, unlike nutritional ketosis, makes the blood acidic (StatPearls, Ketogenic Diet, 2023). It is a medical emergency.
Ketosis and ketoacidosis are not the same
| Nutritional ketosis | Ketoacidosis | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Mild rise in ketones from low-carb eating | Very high ketones with acidic blood |
| Who gets it | People on keto diets or fasting | Mostly people with diabetes, often type 1 |
| How it feels | Often normal after the first weeks | Vomiting, deep fast breathing, confusion |
| What to do | Nothing urgent; keep the routine | Emergency care right away |
A 60 mg BHB capsule will not push a healthy person into ketoacidosis. Even gram doses of salts peaked near 1.0 mM in studies (Stubbs et al., 2017). People with type 1 diabetes, though, should plan any keto diet with their care team.
Retride minerals, kidneys and blood pressure
Tiny at 60 mg, but kidney patients should still ask.
Each BHB salt carries a mineral: magnesium, calcium or sodium. In studies, one large salt drink held 1.6 to 3.2 g of each mineral (Stubbs et al., 2017). That is where mineral worries about BHB salts come from.
Retride is different in scale. The whole blend is 60 mg, so the minerals in a serving are necessarily under 60 mg. The exact split is not published.
Mineral load in context
| Mineral | Daily reference | One Retride serving |
|---|---|---|
| Sodium | Under 2,300 mg a day; U.S. average about 3,400 mg (FDA, Sodium in Your Diet, 2024) | Under 60 mg |
| Magnesium | Supplement upper limit 350 mg a day; high doses cause diarrhea (NIH ODS Magnesium fact sheet, 2026) | Under 60 mg |
| Calcium | Upper limit 2,000–2,500 mg a day by age (NIH ODS Calcium fact sheet) | Under 60 mg |
Who should avoid Retride or ask a doctor first?
Three label groups plus two keto-specific ones.
The label caution names three groups: pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition. They should consult a physician before using this or any supplement.

Retride side effects questions
What are the side effects of Retride?
No side effects have been studied for Retride itself. At 60 mg of BHB per serving, stomach upset is unlikely; it was mainly seen with gram doses of ketone salts. The keto diet the label suggests can cause keto flu in the first weeks.
What are the side effects of keto pills?
Large doses of ketone salts can cause mostly mild stomach symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea. Many keto pills hold far less than those doses. The keto diet itself is a more common source of side effects.
What are the side effects of BHB salts?
In studies, BHB salt drinks caused mostly mild gut symptoms, and high doses caused more than low doses. Each large drink also carried grams of sodium or other minerals. At 60 mg, the mineral load is tiny.
Are ketone supplements safe?
For healthy adults at label doses, ketone supplements in studies caused mostly mild effects. The FDA does not review supplements before sale, so safety rests on the maker. People on diabetes medicine or with kidney disease should ask a doctor first.
Are keto pills safe for diabetics?
Only with a doctor's input. A keto diet can cause severe low blood sugar in people on insulin or diabetes pills unless medicine is adjusted. Extra ketones can also lower blood sugar a little.
Can Retride cause ketoacidosis?
Nutritional ketosis from diet or supplements is not the same as ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis makes the blood acidic and is an emergency, mostly in people with diabetes. Seek urgent care for vomiting, deep fast breathing, confusion or fruity breath.
Does Retride cause diarrhea?
It is unlikely at 60 mg. Diarrhea and nausea in studies came mainly from high-dose ketone salt drinks of many grams. Magnesium at high supplement doses can also loosen stools, but the magnesium in a serving is under 60 mg.
Do BHB salts raise blood pressure?
No study has tested Retride and blood pressure. Large BHB salt drinks carry 1.6 to 3.2 g of each mineral, including sodium. The whole Retride blend is 60 mg, so its sodium is necessarily below that.
How long does keto flu last?
Keto flu usually peaks in the first week and fades after about four weeks. Symptoms include headache, tiredness, nausea and dizziness. Water and regular meals often help.
Are there FDA approved keto pills?
No. The FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they are sold. The Retride label says it is made in an FDA-registered facility, which is not the same as approval.
