Sodium BHB in Retride: What It Is and How Much Sodium You Get
Sodium BHB is the ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate bound to sodium. Retride's label lists it in a 60 mg blend with magnesium and calcium BHB, with no split published. A serving holds at most about 11 mg of sodium, far under the 2,300 mg daily limit. Study salt drinks carried 1.6 to 3.2 grams of each mineral per drink.
What is sodium BHB in Retride?
The ketone body BHB, carried by sodium.

Sodium BHB is beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) joined to sodium. BHB is the main ketone body the liver makes when carbs are low. Makers bind it to a mineral because the pure acid is hard to handle as a powder.
Retride lists sodium BHB third in its blend, after magnesium BHB and calcium BHB. The BHB part is identical in all three.
Once dissolved, the salt splits. BHB is absorbed as a ketone. Sodium joins the sodium from the rest of your food.

How much sodium is in Retride?
Two ceilings: the blend size and sodium's share of the salt.
The label does not say. Its Supplement Facts panel shows one 60 mg blend for all three salts, without a split. Sodium BHB is some share of that.
Chemistry gives a second ceiling. Sodium makes up a little under a fifth of the weight of sodium BHB. Even if all 60 mg were sodium BHB, the sodium itself would be about 11 mg.

- Sodium ceiling: about 11 mg (our arithmetic)Estimate
The 11 mg figure comes from our own molecular-weight math. It is a ceiling, not a label number. The real amount is lower, since magnesium and calcium BHB share the blend.
How does the sodium in Retride compare with the daily limit?
A few milligrams against a 2,300 mg guideline.
It is a sliver of it. The Dietary Guidelines advise under 2,300 mg of sodium a day (FDA, Sodium in Your Diet, 2024). At most about 11 mg comes from a Retride serving, under half of one percent of that.
Sodium per day on one scale (bar length = share of 3,400 mg)
Sodium reference numbers for adults
| Number | What it means | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Under 2,300 mg a day | Dietary Guidelines advice; also the Daily Value | FDA, Sodium in Your Diet, 2024 |
| About 3,400 mg a day | Average U.S. intake | FDA, Sodium in Your Diet, 2024 |
| ≈ 11 mg or less | Most sodium a Retride serving could hold | Label blend + our arithmetic |
For most people, cutting back on packaged food matters far more for sodium than a Retride serving ever could.

How much sodium did ketone salt studies use?
Study drinks carried grams of sodium; this capsule carries milligrams.
A lot more. In one key study, each ketone salt drink held about 12 or 24 grams of BHB and carried 1.6 to 3.2 grams of each mineral, sodium and potassium (Stubbs et al., 2017). One drink could hold most of a day's sodium limit, or more.
Sodium per serving or drink (bar length = share of 3.2 g)
BHB salt research doses
| Study | Dose of BHB salts | Main finding |
|---|---|---|
| Stubbs et al., 2017 | About 12 or 24 g per drink | Blood BHB peaked near 1.0 mM; 1.6–3.2 g of each mineral per drink |
| Buga et al., 2021 | About 24 g a day for 6 weeks on a keto diet | 7.3 kg lost with salts vs 8.0 kg with placebo |
| Roeth et al., 2025 | 10 g a day with a calorie deficit | 3.05 kg vs 1.51 kg; not significant |
| Stubbs et al., 2019 | High-dose vs low-dose salt drinks | More gut symptoms at higher doses |
This is the trade-off with ketone salts. Raising blood ketones in a meaningful way takes grams of salt, and grams of salt bring grams of minerals. Retride sits at the other end: tiny mineral load, and far below studied BHB doses. The BHB ketones guide covers the full dose gap.
Do BHB salts raise blood pressure?
The mineral load is what matters, and it depends on dose.
The concern is the sodium, not the BHB. The FDA links eating too much sodium with high blood pressure (FDA, Sodium in Your Diet, 2024). Ketone salt drinks at study doses can add more than a gram of sodium at once.
At Retride's dose, the sodium is a few milligrams at most. That is less than a pinch of salt on food. Still, your doctor knows your history best.
- 1
Count total sodium
Food labels list sodium in mg. Most of it hides in packaged and restaurant meals.
- 2
Compare to 2,300 mg
Keep your daily total under the guideline unless your doctor sets a lower goal.
- 3
Add supplement sodium
Ketone powders can add a lot. Retride adds about 11 mg at most.
- 4
Ask about your target
If you have high blood pressure, ask what daily sodium goal fits you.
What are the side effects of sodium BHB?
Dose drives both gut effects and sodium load.
At high doses, gut symptoms are the most common. High-dose ketone salt drinks had a gut symptom score of 13.8, versus 2.0 for low-dose drinks (Stubbs et al., 2019). Symptoms were mostly mild, such as nausea and loose stools.
At milligram doses, these effects are much less likely. Taking the capsules with the label's 8 oz. glass of water helps them go down. The Retride side effects page covers the full formula and the keto diet.
Dose, gut symptoms and sodium
| Dose level | Gut symptoms | Sodium load |
|---|---|---|
| High-dose salt drink | Highest symptom score (13.8) | Grams per drink |
| Low-dose salt drink | Low symptom score (2.0) | Lower, but still far above a capsule |
| Retride serving | Not studied; dose is tiny | About 11 mg at most |
Where does most of your sodium come from?
Packaged and restaurant food first, supplements a distant last.
Mostly from food made outside your kitchen. There are no BHB-rich foods to worry about, but there are many sodium-rich ones. On keto, some low-carb foods are quite salty.
Soups, sauces, deli meats and snacks often carry hundreds of milligrams per serving. Check the label's sodium line and % Daily Value.
Bacon, cured meats, cheese and salted nuts are low in carbs but can be high in sodium. Fresh meat, eggs, fish and plain nuts are lower.
Restaurant dishes can be very high in sodium. Ask for sauces on the side and choose grilled over cured or fried.
Ketone powders can be a hidden source of grams of sodium. Retride capsules add only milligrams.
The keto diet guide has a sample day built around fresh foods.
Who should check with a doctor before taking Retride?
Four groups who should get advice first.
Most healthy adults face little risk from a few milligrams of sodium. These groups should still check first.
Kidney disease
Kidneys balance sodium and other minerals. Ask your kidney doctor before any mineral salt.
Blood pressure care
If you follow a low-sodium plan, count every source and ask before adding salt-based products.
Pregnant or nursing
The label asks pregnant or nursing mothers to consult a physician first.
Under 18
The label asks anyone under 18 to see a physician first. Retride is made for adults.

Sodium BHB questions
What is sodium BHB?
Sodium BHB is beta-hydroxybutyrate, a ketone body, bound to sodium to make a dry salt. It is the most common BHB salt in ketone powders and drinks. It is one of the three BHB salts in the Retride blend.
How much sodium is in Retride?
The exact amount is not published. The label lists a 60 mg blend of magnesium, calcium and sodium BHB with no split. Sodium is under a fifth of sodium BHB's weight, so a serving holds at most about 11 mg of sodium.
Do BHB salts raise blood pressure?
Large doses could add a lot of sodium, which matters for blood pressure. One study drink carried 1.6 to 3.2 grams of each mineral (Stubbs et al., 2017), close to or above the daily sodium limit. Retride's sodium is a few milligrams at most, but ask your doctor if you have high blood pressure.
What are the side effects of sodium BHB?
At high doses, the usual side effects are nausea, stomach upset and loose stools. High-dose ketone salt drinks caused more gut symptoms than low-dose ones (Stubbs et al., 2019). Big doses also bring a large sodium load.
How much sodium should I have a day?
The Dietary Guidelines advise less than 2,300 mg of sodium a day for adults (FDA, Sodium in Your Diet, 2024). That is also the Daily Value on food labels. Americans average about 3,400 mg a day.
Is sodium BHB safe on a low-sodium diet?
The tiny amount in Retride is unlikely to matter, but check with your doctor. If you follow a sodium limit for heart or kidney reasons, count every source and ask before adding any salt-based supplement.
What foods are high in sodium?
Most sodium comes from packaged and restaurant foods, not the salt shaker. Breads, cured meats, pizza, soups, sandwiches and savory snacks are common sources. Food labels list sodium in milligrams per serving.
Does sodium BHB put you in ketosis?
Not at Retride's dose. Ketosis mainly starts when carbs drop below about 50 grams a day (StatPearls, Ketogenic Diet, 2023). Even 12 to 24 grams of BHB salts raised blood ketones to only about 1 mM for a few hours (Stubbs et al., 2017).
Is sodium BHB the same as table salt?
No. Table salt is sodium chloride. Sodium BHB pairs sodium with a ketone body instead of chloride. Both add sodium to your day, so both count toward the 2,300 mg limit.
